Kenya national women team Harambee Starlets continued with their impressive run at the ongoing CECAFA Women’s Senior Challenge in Dar es Salaam after hammering Uganda 4-0 in their second fixture at Azam Complex Stadium on Tuesday.
Kenya looked the better side from kick-off and it was midfielder Diana Wacera, who opened the scoring after 18 minutes of play, before veteran Dorcas Sikobe doubled the lead eight minutes. Experienced Violet Nanjala notched the third in the 28th minute for the Beldine Odemba-led side, who took a commanding 3-0 heading into the half-time break.
After a number of missed chances in the second period, Starlets finally grabbed their fourth of the day in the 81st minute when Martha Amunyolet completed the emphatic victory. Earlier on, Tanzania women's national team, the Twiga Stars registered a commanding 6-0 victory over Burundi in their second group-stage match played at the same venue.
Tanzania's goals came from Diana Lucas, Jamila Rajabu, Stumai Abdallah, Clara Luvanga, with Opa Clement stealing the spotlight by netting twice to complete the emphatic win.
This dominant performance followed their 4-0 win over South Sudan in the opening match, placing Twiga Stars in a strong position to reach the knockout stage—and possibly contend for the championship title.
For Burundi, this was their third match of the tournament. They began with a narrow 1-0 win over Uganda but then suffered a 3-0 defeat to Kenya before the heavy loss to Tanzania.
Twiga Stars will return to action on June 19 in a crucial match against Uganda. Meanwhile, Burundi will wrap up their group stage campaign on June 21 against South Sudan.
