Celta Vigo have completed the transfer of Guinean international Ilaix Moriba after the young midfielder accepted a significant pay cut.
The Spanish club, which had until Sunday, June 15th to exercise the purchase option agreed with RB Leipzig (Moriba's home club) for €6 million, has finalized the deal after weeks of intense negotiations with the player's representatives.
The Vigo club will sign Moriba on a long-term contract, solidifying one of the key players in its sporting project for the coming years. The sporting board worked hard to finalize all the details and secure a contract extension for the 22-year-old midfielder, aware that his performances have attracted interest from several European clubs. However, Moriba's willingness to adapt his financial demands was crucial in enabling Celta Vigo to complete the deal within the given deadline.
Moriba was one of Celta Vigo's most outstanding players last season, making 35 competitive appearances, registering one goal and two assists. The young central midfielder's resilience, vision and leadership have been essential for the team, who are confident he will remain a key player.
