CHAN 2024: Algeria name 28-man provisional squad

Algeria’s head coach Madjid Bougherra has unveiled a provisional squad of 28 players as preparations intensify for the upcoming TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.

The Desert Foxes are currently in camp, fine-tuning their strategies ahead of the continental tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2nd to 30th.

Included in the squad is 2022 CHAN top scorer Aymen Mahious, who will once again be expected to spearhead Algeria’s attack. The team also features a mix of experienced names and promising talents, all drawn from clubs within Algeria’s domestic league, in accordance with CHAN regulations.

Algeria has been placed in Group C alongside co-hosts Uganda, South Africa, Guinea, and Niger. They will kick off their campaign against Uganda on August 4th at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Bougherra’s side will be looking to go one step further this time, having finished as runners-up in the 2022 edition that was won by Senegal.
