Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Dr. Patrice Motsepe is set to visit Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in December 2024 as part of preparations for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
The highly anticipated tournament, which will be hosted jointly by the three East African nations is scheduled for February 2025. Dr. Motsepe’s visit will focus on evaluating the readiness of stadiums and related infrastructure essential for a successful competition.

CAF announced that key aspects of the visit will include inspections of hosting facilities, logistical arrangements and other preparations across the three nations. During his trip, Dr. Motsepe will also chair a CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting in Tanzania, where key issues on the agenda include:
Updates on CHAN 2024 progress and readiness.
Review of CAF’s eight-year roadmap to generate US$1 billion in African football revenue.
Updates on the ongoing investigation into governance issues within the CAF Secretariat.
Finalizing plans for the CAF Awards, set for 16 December 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco.
In Uganda, State Minister for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang confirmed that the country will host two CHAN groups, utilizing Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) as the main venue. Training sessions will take place at facilities such as Namboole’s outside pitch, Kyambogo and Kadiba. Kenya will host one group while Tanzania will host two.
This edition of CHAN marks a historic first for being jointly hosted by three nations, underscoring the collaborative spirit of East African football. Dr. Motsepe’s visit aims to ensure the region is well-prepared to deliver a world-class tournament.
