Attacking midfielder Allan Okello lauded the unity and determination within the Uganda Cranes squad as they intensified their preparations for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Okello spoke after joining the team for the first time since they embarked on non-residential training at Luzira Prison Grounds.
“Today was a tough one. We’ve been working hard together, and everyone is ready to give their best during the CHAN tournament,” said Okello, highlighting the commitment and cohesion within the group.
The Cranes have now entered their second week of training, and the energy around camp continues to grow. Each session has seen players push themselves harder, with the technical team emphasizing intensity, tactical discipline, and team bonding.
Defender Gavin Kizito also shared his thoughts, noting the impressive fitness levels in the squad despite coming in off the back of a break.
“This was our first day in the second week of training. Though we’ve been in the off-season, all players are in good shape. We’re picking up slowly and getting stronger each day,” Kizito said.
Uganda will host Group C of the 2024 CHAN tournament and will open their campaign against Algeria on 4 August at the refurbished Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. With time ticking down to kick-off, the Cranes are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to finally progress beyond the group stage.
