Holders Senegal were held to a one all draw against Liberia in their African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier first leg tie played on Sunday in Monrovia.
Senegal head coach Souleymane Diallo told the Senegal Football Federation (FSF) official YouTube channel that the plan was to get a positive result away from home. Diallo stated his charges performed well in a very difficult encounter. “The boys played a decent game. Playing away is always a challenge but we had a game plan to get a positive result.”
Senegal scored first through Seydina Mbaye but Abdulai Bility equalized ten minutes before time. Diallo said losing to Liberia was the first thing they sought to avoid during the game.
“We noticed that this time they were holding on with a different approach in the game. We were prepared for these scenarios and that allowed us to hold on to the draw,” Diallo told FSF.
Diallo now looks ahead to the return leg and expects his charges to get the job done at home. Senegal won the 2022 edition of CHAN as they look to defend their title in at the 2024 edition that will be played in February 2025.
