Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put has announced two potential friendly matches as the team intensifies preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The Belgian tactician confirmed that Uganda will take on Niger in Rwanda on January 18. Efforts to arrange a friendly with reigning CHAN champions Senegal, however, did not materialise.
“We will play Niger in Rwanda on 18th January. We first had contact with Senegal, but they kept us waiting,” said Put.
The Cranes are also exploring the possibility of a match against DR Congo, though logistical hurdles remain.
“We have contacted DR Congo who are currently in Dubai. I have been talking to FUFA and if we can get visas ready on time, we may play this game on 24th January,” explained Put.
This will mark Uganda’s seventh appearance at CHAN having participated in 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022. The 2024 edition will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania from February 1 to 28 2025 with the official tournament draw scheduled for Wednesday January 15 in Kenya.
