Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has thrown his support to the nation’s Championship for Africa Nations [CHAN] team ahead of the tournament later this year.
Coach Daniel Ogunmodede will lead his charges for the delayed competition that will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in August 2025.
Nigeria defeated rivals Ghana over two legs – a goalless first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium and a resounding 3-1 victory in Uyo in the reverse fixture to qualify for the tournament.
Ikpeba, who is former African Footballer of the Year said that, the rescheduled CHAN competition is a vital opportunity for the home-based players to prove themselves.
"The CHAN competition is around the corner so it is an opportunity for the players to showcase," he said. "And I am very sure with the national team coach we have now, those who are good enough will be given the opportunity to play for the national team.
"It is for them to show and compete that they are better than the ones we have there."
The tournament was originally set for January 2025 but infrastructural challenges forced the Confederation of African Football [CAF] to push forward the tournament.
