Algeria coach Madjid Bougherra has discussed how they managed to dominate Uganda 3-0 in their opening fixture of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Namboole Stadium in Kampala on Monday.
Despite the Cranes playing in front of their fans, goals from Ayoub Ghezala, Abderrahmane Meziane and Soufiane Bayazid sealed the emphatic win for the North African giants to silence the hosting nation.
“It was a good win. The result reflects the work this group has put in. It wasn’t easy — we were playing away, under pressure — but we dominated technically and tactically,” Bougherra told journalists as quoted by CAFOnline.com.
Asked to explain what helped them to win the game, he said: “The difference was in the tactical approach. The early end of our domestic league gave us more time to prepare. That allowed us to build cohesion in our system and work on match scenarios.”
The result marked Algeria’s third consecutive win over Uganda at CHAN, extending their unbeaten group stage record in the competition to seven matches. Algeria, who reached the final in the previous CHAN edition, now top Group C with three points.
