CHAN: Congo not totally satisfied despite Senegal draw – Ngatsono

Congo head coach Barthélémy Ngatsono has admitted he was not fully satisfied despite his side managing to grind out a 1-1 draw against defending champions Senegal in their TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) fixture at New Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

Dechan Moussavou’s early strike gave Congo a surprise lead, but Joseph Layousse salvaged a point for the Lions of Teranga with a second-half equaliser at the Amaan Stadium.

“We’re not totally satisfied,” Ngatsono admitted afterwards as quoted by CAFOnline.com. “We were close to victory, but football is unpredictable. A mistake cost us the equaliser. That said, we stood up to the African champions, and that remains a source of pride.

“Senegal used all their experience to come back, but we showed that we deserve our place here. This draw keeps us alive. We are still aiming for the quarter-finals.”

The result left Group D finely poised. In the day’s later game, Sudan stunned Nigeria, shaking up the standings. The East African nation under Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah, now top the group on goal difference, level on four points with Senegal.

Congo, with two points from two draws, remained within touching distance, while Nigeria stayed bottom with just one point and mounting pressure.
