Following the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to slap Football Kenya Federation (FKF) with a total fine of Ksh 2.5million (USD 20,000), following a series of alarming security breaches during Harambee Stars opening 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group A match against DR Congo, the federation has promised to reinforce security in remaining matches.
Despite the fine, the African body further warned of more sanctions should Kenya’s football fanatics violate strict guidelines during the month-long competition being co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
In a renewed call for fan discipline, FKF have issued a statement obtained by Pan-Africa Football calling on Kenyans to uphold the highest standards of patriotism, discipline, and hospitality as the East African nation continues to host the prestigious continental tournament.”
Below is the full statement from FKF;
“Our attention is drawn to the concerns imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following Kenya’s breach of CAF regulations during the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) match between Kenya and DR Congo, held on Sunday, 3rd August 2025, at the Moi Kasarani.
As a host, we reaffirm our commitment to delivering CHAN 2024 as a safe, inclusive, and dignified tournament. Any acts of indiscipline not only compromise public safety but also tarnish our national image and jeopardize future hosting opportunities, including preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
While we commend the thousands of patriotic fans who have complied with tournament guidelines and shown exemplary support for the Harambee Stars, we issue a firm caution to all fans and stadium attendees to:
- Strictly refrain from carrying or using flares, smoke devices, or any other prohibited materials.
- Avoid all forms of aggressive, confrontational, or disorderly behavior.
- Comply fully with stadium security procedures and the CAF Code of
Conduct for SpectatorsSecurity operations will be significantly reinforced for the remaining fixtures. Any individuals found in violation will be ejected, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with Kenyan law.”
