CHAN: Guinea’s objective is still alive against South Africa – Camara

Guinea head coach Souleymane Camara has refused to give in on their qualification insisting they still have a chance as they face South Africa in their TotalEnergies African Nations Championship fixture at Nelson Mandela Stadium on Monday.

While Guinea will head for the Group C clash reeling from a 3-0 defeat to Uganda, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana will arrive with a single point from their 1-1 opener against Algeria.

“I believe tomorrow’s game is there to be won. I am responsible for this team and I remind my players that they can win,” said Camara as quoted by CAFOnline.com. “We have had enough time to rest and I believe they are recovered. It’s not the fact that we lost that takes away our hope. Our objective is still alive.”

Guinea midfielder Mahamed Madani Diarra, said: “After the loss against Uganda, we returned to training focused on tomorrow’s match. Among the players, we talked and concluded we must react and overcome the bad moment.

“The most important thing is not to lose focus. We are here to represent Guinea and will do our best to win the game. We are all concerned and aware of what we have to do on the pitch.”

Defeat for either South Africa or Guinea on Monday could spell the end of their CHAN 2024 hopes. Victory, on the other hand, would inject belief, momentum, and a lifeline heading into the final round of matches.
