CHAN: Kenya determined to give ‘our fans something to celebrate’ – McCarthy

Kenya national team head coach Benni McCarthy has vowed to give Kenyans something to celebrate when Harambee Stars kick off their 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) opener against DR Congo at Kasarani Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the Group A opener, the South African explained why he feels his players have done enough to make Kenyans proud during the tournament reserved for locally based players.

“We lost that match, but the support was overwhelming. This time, Kasarani Stadium, which is even larger, is already sold out. That kind of backing lifts players. We’re determined to do our best and give our fans something to celebrate,” he said as quoted by MozzartSports.

“The president’s visit has energized the team. His support, both moral and financial, is a big boost. We have been fortunate to engage with him more than once, and we don’t want to disappoint him or Kenyans. Our goal is to bring joy to the country.”

The Kenya versus DR Congo clash is already sold out with over 48, 000 fans expected at the venue to cheer on Harambee Stars.
