CHAN: Madagascar suffered because of red card in Mauritania draw – “Toldo” Ramandimbisoa

Madagascar national team goalkeeper Michel Ramandimbozwa believes their outcome against Mauritania could have been different had they played eleven against eleven in the opening fixture of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday.

The momentum of the fixture shifted dramatically before half-time break when Madagascar captain Dax was shown a red card, the first of the CHAN in East Africa. However, despite the numerical numbers, Ramandimbozwa produced a great game to help his side secured a vital 0-0 draw.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the goalkeeper, who was named man of the match, acknowledged the emotional toll of the sending-off while expressing gratitude for the collective response of the team.

“I thank God for the match we played and the result achieved,” Ramandimbozwa told CAFOnline.com. “Our players suffered because of the red card that the team captain received. It was not easy, but we stayed united and focused.”

On winning the man of the match award, the 28-year-old said: “I am proud and happy for our team, all the players, and also for our coach,” he said. “I say thank you to the Malagasy people.

“I am satisfied with the result and also with my performance, especially since it was our first match. It sets the tone for the rest of the tournament.”

He concluded: “The draw is still important for us. Now there are three matches left, and we will try to do our best.”
