CHAN: Morocco ready to face any challenge with determination against Senegal – Sektioui

Morocco head coach Tarik Sektioui has promised to fight for everything at stake when they face defending champions Senegal in the semifinals of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda on Tuesday.

The Atlas Lions will face a West African opposition for the ninth time at CHAN (P8 W5 D1 L2). They struggled initially, failing to win any of their first three encounters – drawing with Burkina Faso and losing to Nigeria (2014) and Côte d’Ivoire (2016).

“Tomorrow (Tuesday), we have a very important game against a team that earned their qualification fairly. It won’t be easy; it will be a very, very tough game. Our goal is always to win this trophy in 2024, even with Senegal in the semi-final,” Sektioui told reporters as quoted by CAFOnline.com.

“We are ready to face any challenge with determination and strength. Every player plays an important role and works hard to overcome difficulties. Preparation and attention to detail will be decisive for this game.”

Speaking on behalf of the players, Morocco midfielder Khalid Babasaid: “Our mindset is that of a professional, responsible group that knows it must do everything to win. Victory doesn’t happen by chance; it is earned, and we are responsible for representing Morocco and Moroccan football.”

This will be Morocco’s first-ever CHAN game against defending champions.
