Malawi national football team coach Kalisto Pasuwa was taken ill on the eve of a match between the Flames and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Sunday
The Zimbabwean was absent when the Flames lost 2-0 to Bafana Bafana in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) final qualifying round, second leg match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
The Football Association of Malawi did not explain Pasuwa’s absence from the technical bench but several media outlets in Zimbabwe and Malawi confirmed his illness. The reports indicate that the former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets mentor was rushed to a hospital in Pretoria after suffering chest pains.
In Pasuwa’s absence, assistant coach Peter Mponda took charge of Malawi. The visitors failed to hold on to a 1-0 lead registered at home in the first leg match played last week.
Victor Letsoalo and Neo Maema scored in each half to see Bafana Bafana through to the CHAN finals scheduled for Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in August 2025.
