CHAN: Shabana’s Michira, Tusker’s Erambo latest inclusion in Kenya squad as Bajaber leaves

Kenya national team head coach Benni McCarthy has been forced to recall two new faces into the Harambee Stars squad with only four days remaining before the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) gets underway.

The latest additions have been necessitated following the abrupt exit of key midfielder Mohammed Bajaber, who left camp on Monday for Tanzania where he is scheduled to sign a contract with Mainland Premier League outfit Simba SC.

The exit of Bajaber, who features for Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Kenya Police FC, forced McCarthy to turn to Shabana striker Brian Michira and Tusker midfielder Erastus Erambo

The two players reported to camp on Monday and trained with the rest of the squad ahead of Kenya’s opening clash against DR Congo at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday, August 3.

His departure from camp came a few weeks after FKF Premier League top scorer Moses Shumah and runner-up Emmanuel Osoro left Harambee Stars camp to sign for Zambian Premier League champions Power Dynamos.

Shumah, who scored 17 goals while playing for Kakamega Homeboyz and Osoro, who managed 16 goals for FC Talanta, signed two-year permanent deals with Dynamos which automatically ruled them out of the CHAN tournament.

After opening against DR Congo, Kenya’s second fixture will be against Angola on Tuesday, August 7th, before they face Morocco on Sunday, August 10th and wind up their group fixtures against Zambia on Sunday, August 17th.
