South Africa’s coach at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), Molefi Ntseki, has highlighted the lessons his team must learn going into Friday’s meeting with Niger.
The coach has drawn lessons from their last performance ahead of the Group C must-win at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
Bafana Bafana will go into Friday’s match placed third with four points from two outings, two points behind co-hosts and leaders Uganda.
With such a scenario, Ntseki admitted to the South African Football Association media that his side needs to collect three points to be sure of progression to the next round.
The coach, therefore, wants his side to draw lessons from the last match which saw Bafana Bafana getting the better of Guinea 2-1 on Monday.
“I think the lessons learned from that game, which we view as positives, include the mentality of our players and their high level of concentration, despite the fact that they were under siege for the better part of the match,” the coach said.
“We stuck to our discipline, we stuck to our game plan and every member of the team had to dig deep to make sure that the result ended in our favour. So, the most important thing was the technical discipline when we were out of possession, and this was very important.”
Before South Africa’s match, second-placed Algeria will play against Guinea earlier in the day. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are hosting the CHAN finals, exclusive to home-based players, from 2 to 30 August 2025.
