Uganda will be without key midfielder Joel Sserunjogi for their crucial final African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group C match against South Africa next Monday. Sserunjogi, who has been one of the standout performers of the tournament, will serve a one-match suspension following two yellow cards received in previous games.
The midfielder was booked during Uganda’s 3-0 defeat to Algeria and again cautioned in their 2-0 victory over Niger, where he, alongside Allan Okello, played a pivotal role in securing the win. According to CAF competition rules, two yellow cards across matches result in an automatic one-game suspension.
Adding to Uganda’s concerns, Enock Ssebagala, another impressive performer, suffered an injury scare after limping off in the second half against Niger. He was replaced by Elvis Ngonde as a precaution.
With history on the line, Uganda must defeat South Africa in their final group encounter to advance to the knockout phase for the first time ever.
