CHAN: Zambia defeat against DR Congo water under the bridge – Chongo

Zambia national team captain Kabaso Chongo has claimed the team is ready and targeting a win against Angola in the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) to exorcise the match day one loss to DR Congo.

The Chipolopolo, who suffered an opening Group A 2-0 defeat against two-time CHAN champions DR Congo, will face Angola at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

According to Chongo, Zambia were already focused and looking forward to the match against neighbouring Angola to put their campaign back on track.

“That game is water under the bridge; we are just looking forward to the next game (Angola). We just want to perform well and reach the knockout stage,” he told FAZ media.

Chongo said the team was aware of the challenge every game posed but would step up in the match against Angola. “Every match is hard but the most important is to work hard and work together as a unit and look forward. Things are going well, we didn’t start well for the first game so we are just looking at the next game to perform well and get a positive result,” he said.

“Football is dynamic, anything can happen, that is pressure for us. We just have to hear what the coach is telling us and adapt during the game.”

The Chipolopolo meet an Angola side equally desperate for a win after losing and drawing in their first two matches. Angola will be hoping the threat posed by Jó Paciência and Aguinaldo Matias aid their chase for victory.
