Chelsea FC’s manager Enzo Maresca says he will sit down with Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson after being sent off in the 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday, May 11.

The Italian manager said Jackson could have avoided committing the serious foul, which led to his dismissal after VAR recommended an on-field check.

“I didn’t speak to Nico, it’s not the moment. We will speak the next day. No doubt he has to learn from it, especially at this stage where we have two more games,” Maresca told the Chelsea website.

“You have to avoid this kind of thing. You need all your squad available. It happened, and he will be out. Hopefully, he can learn for the future.”

Maresca said it was unfortunate that the red card rules the striker out of their remaining Premier League games against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.

“He is our nine, the other one is Marc Guiu, who has been injured for three months and is close to being back. We need to find a different solution in the last two games that are important,” he said.

The defeat leaves Chelsea in fifth place. They must win their remaining two games to secure a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
