The Nigeria number one, who made history as the first African goalkeeper to ever start for a team in the top flight of English women’s football, joined Brighton from Paris FC in July and was handed the number 1 jersey.
She started the match and played the full 90 minutes, making four crucial saves.
The match at Broadfield Stadium was a hard-fought battle with both sides creating numerous scoring opportunities. Brighton registered 18 shots with four on target while Aston Villa had 12 shots, also putting four on target.
However, the Nigerian’s experience and composure were evident throughout the game as she made four saves to keep her clean sheet intact.
Aston Villa’s goalkeeper, Sarah D’Angelo, also contributed to the clean sheet before being substituted due to injury. She was replaced by Ellie Roebuck, who carried the team to the end of the game.
Brighton will face their next major test on Friday when they take on one of the league’s top sides, Manchester City.
