The 24-year-old made history as the first African to be nominated for the prestigious award, which was given a women’s category for the first time this year. Nnadozie finished fourth in the women’s Goalkeeper of the Year category.
Brighton took to their official social media account on X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate her remarkable feat,
“@NadozieChiamaka is fourth in the #TrophéeYachine rankings at this year’s #BallonDor! Congratulations on your nomination, Chiamaka!”
The award was claimed by England’s Hannah Hampton, who capped off a remarkable year by being named the first-ever recipient of the accolade.
Hampton finished ahead of a top five that included Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger (2nd), Spain’s Cata Coll (3rd), Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie (4th), and the Netherlands’ Daphne van Domselaar (5th).
Nnadozie was part of the Nigeria women’s national team that clinched a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title last month.
Meanwhile, another near-miss for Nigeria’s football representatives saw Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or Women’s Team Coach of the Year award, falling short of the winners bracket.
Madugu’s nomination was a historic first for an African coach in that category and a significant acknowledgment of his tactical acumen in leading the Super Falcons to their WAFCON triumph.
