Chicago Fire boss Gregg Berhalter hails Mbokazi’s qualities

South Africa defender, Mbekezeli Mbokazi has received massive praises from Chicago Fire FC manager Gregg Berhalter after displaying flashes of his qualities under the American boss.

The 20-year-old signed for the Major League Soccer side from South Africa giants Orlando Pirates last year prior to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Mbokazi made his first pre-season appearance in the clash against LA Galaxy on Sunday in which they won recorded a 3-2 victory.

Gregg Berhalter shared positive words about Mbokazi’s performance on the day.

“I thought he did well,” Berhalter told Fair Point Football.

“He was very good in the duels, had some good build-up play, and overall delivered a strong performance.”

The former Pirates vice-captain played four matches as Bafana Bafana exited the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in the round of 16 after a 2-1 loss to five-time champions Cameroon.
