Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart set for Austrian adventure with SV Ried

Kaizer Chiefs skipper Yusuf Maart is poised for a new chapter in his career, trading the South African Premier Division for the Austrian Bundesliga.

He’s reportedly joining newly promoted SV Ried 1912, a move that will see him reunite with former Stellenbosch FC winger Antonio van Wyk.

Maart, despite recently extending his contract with Amakhosi, remained in South Africa while his team jetted off for their pre-season tour in the Netherlands, a clear sign that a club-to-club agreement for his transfer was in place.

However, Maart is in a race against time, awaiting his visa to join his new club, SV Ried 1912, in Austria. While his new teammates are deep into pre-season preparations, Maart is maintaining peak fitness with a private trainer in Johannesburg, eager to link up as soon as his paperwork is complete.

SV Ried’s pre-season schedule is already in full swing, and they’re keen for Maart to feature in their upcoming friendlies. They’re particularly hoping he’ll be available for their clash against German third-division side Energie Cottbus at the Innviertel Arena on Friday, July 18.

The club then faces SKU Amstetten on Saturday, July 19, before kicking off their UNIQA ÖFB Cup campaign against SC/ESV Parndorf 1919 on Friday, July 25. Their demanding Bundesliga season opener against formidable RB Salzburg awaits on Saturday, August 2.
