Chiefs chase top-three return in crucial Orbit College clash

Kaizer Chiefs head into their Betway Premiership encounter against Orbit College FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha knowing that maximum points will propel them back into third place on the standings.

The Soweto giants have successfully navigated a turbulent patch, arresting a four-game losing streak in all competitions with back-to-back victories over Durban City FC (1-0) and Magesi FC (2-0). A win on the coast would see Amakhosi leapfrog AmaZulu FC by two points as the race for continental football intensifies.

Kaizer Chiefs Eye Third Spot in Vital Orbit College Encounter

While Chiefs are hunting for a top-three finish, the stakes are equally high for the “Mswenko Boys.” Orbit College currently finds themselves languishing in 15th place, deeply entangled in a relegation dogfight with only 18 points from 22 outings.

The newly-promoted side has struggled for consistency, winning just five games this campaign. Their last outing ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Siwelele, and coach Pogiso Makhoye is under no illusions about the task ahead.

“We need to fight, and it’s going to be a long way,” said Makhoye most recently. “Our target is to ensure that in at least five games we get four points. The priority is to make sure we stay in this league.”

Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has warned his side against complacency following their recent resurgence. Amakhosi dominated the reverse fixture with a 4-1 thumping at FNB Stadium in November, but Kaze expects a grittier battle this time around.

“From now on, we need to stay calm and not get euphoric because we won two games; we need to work very hard to keep the momentum,” Kaze noted.

Team News: Defensive Headaches for Kaze

Amakhosi will have to reshuffle their backline for the trip to Gqeberha. The Glamour Boys are without the suspended Inacio Miguel, while Zitha Kwinika, Rushwin Dortley, and Reeve Frosler remain sidelined through injury alongside midfielder George Matlou.

Orbit College, meanwhile, receives a timely boost with the return of Thulani Jingana from suspension, though veteran defender Brian Mandela remains an injury doubt for the struggling hosts.
