Chiefs’ Kaze issues rallying call ahead of Simba decider

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has issued a rallying cry ahead of the decisive CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round second leg, insisting his squad is prepared to overcome AS Simba and make club history.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Kaze was optimistic about Chiefs’ chances of advancing to the group stage for the first time under the competition’s current format, following a crucial 0-0 draw in the first leg in the Democratic Republic of Congo just over a week ago.

The return leg will be staged in Soweto with kickoff set for 3:00 (SA time) this afternoon with Betway Premiership side, Chiefs eager to seal a place in the group stages.

The coach emphasised the magnitude of the encounter at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday, urging the Soweto giants’ faithful to turn out in force.

“We can make history this weekend, and I would like to ask everyone to come and support us at Dobsonville,” Kaze stated. “We know what is at stake, and all the players have trained hard and are ready to do what it takes to go through.”

He highlighted the mental boost continental football provides, especially for a squad seeking togetherness. “This particular group hasn’t played in the groups stages of continental competition with the new format, so everyone understands that this could be historic for the Club,” he explained. “It creates togetherness and a desire to give everything for each other and the team.”

Chiefs Squad Fitness and New Venue

Kaze provided an injury update, confirming that forward Khanyisa Mayo is ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury in the previous domestic match. However, there is guarded optimism regarding the availability of Miguel, who is undergoing a fitness test after being withdrawn at halftime in the same game. Aside from these concerns, the squad is largely fit and available.

The move to Dobsonville Stadium was also welcomed by the coach. “We are looking forward to playing there. We did some measurements and the pitch is actually slightly bigger than at FNB,” Kaze noted. He added that having the “crowd closer to the field gives more energy to the players,” a critical factor for a must-win tie.
