Under intense pressure from supporters and critics alike, Kaizer Chiefs winger Glody Lilepo has found a staunch defender in former Amakhosi star, Tsepo Masilela.
The defensive legend has publicly backed the Congolese international to quickly rediscover his confidence and return to his goal-scoring form.
Lilepo has endured a difficult start to the new campaign, facing increasing criticism over missed chances and decision-making, which led to him being dropped from the matchday squad for the first time this season during Chiefs’ 4-1 win over Orbit College FC in the Betway Premiership last month.
The 28-year-old’s current struggles contrast sharply with his immediate impact last season, where he finished as the club’s top scorer with six goals in just 15 games after joining in January 2024 from Valenciennes FC. This season, he has managed three goals across 15 appearances.
Speaking on Soccer Beat, former Chiefs left-back Masilela was quick to dismiss the winger’s struggles as temporary, pointing instead to Lilepo’s consistent threat in the final third.
“You know what I like about Lilepo? He consistently gets into those dangerous positions,” Masilela stated. “He gets so many chances and takes so many shots, and we’re talking about a winger here. If he converts half of those chances, we’re telling a different story.”
Masilela highlighted that Glody Lilepo’s positive, attack-minded approach is a key asset often missing in other players.
“Unlike wingers who play back passes all the time, Lilepo is positive. He affects the game. He also has aerial strength, he’s tall, can jump, and gives you that extra edge from set pieces,” he added.
Lilepo’s confidence has undoubtedly been tested by recent setbacks, including his penalty miss against AmaZulu FC in October and a glaring opportunity squandered against TS Galaxy in the final game of 2025. Yet, Masilela remains unwaveringly optimistic.
“Maybe his confidence dropped a little after that miss, but I still believe in him. He’ll bounce back and start scoring again,” Masilela concluded.
