After months of “periodisation,” conditioning, and mysterious absences, the wait for Ethan Chislett and Nkanyiso Shinga is reportedly coming to an end. Amakhosi co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has all but confirmed that the duo’s long-standing competitive drought is over.
The signals coming out of the Kaizer Chiefs Village on Monday afternoon were impossible to ignore. As the squad wrapped up their final preparations for Tuesday’s Betway Premiership clash against Stellenbosch FC, Chislett and Shinga were not just present—they were prominent.
The pair were spotted training at full tilt, looking sharp and fully integrated into the tactical drills. For two players who have been trapped in a cycle of “technical conditioning” since the 2025/26 season began, their presence in the main group suggests the medical green light has finally been flashed.
When grilled by the media about the availability of the two high-profile signings, Ben Youssef opted for a cryptic yet confident revelation.
“Tomorrow you will get your results. Tomorrow, you will get your answer,” Ben Youssef teased.
For a club that has already seen the CAF Confederation Cup, Nedbank Cup, and Carling Knockout trophies slip through their fingers, the “answer” needs to be a resounding one. With the league now the only priority, the introduction of Chislett’s English League One pedigree and Shinga’s Portuguese experience could be the spark needed to save the season.
While the “missing” duo appears ready, the Naturena medical room remains busy. The Glamour Boys will head to FNB Stadium without:
Etiosa Ighodaro: Still roughly two weeks away from a return.
Reeve Frosler: Officially ruled out of the Tuesday night tie.
George Matlou: In a worrying development, the midfielder was seen wearing a knee brace at training, signalling a potentially lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Chiefs currently sit in fourth place with 30 points. While they trail arch-rivals Orlando Pirates by eight points, their two games in hand make every fixture a “must-win”—especially with the Soweto Derby looming this Saturday.
Amakhosi have already tasted defeat twice against Steve Barker’s men this season. If Chislett and Shinga finally step onto the pitch at 19:30 tomorrow, the pressure will be on to prove they were worth the wait.
