Chiefs sanction five DDC exits to clear path for new talent

Kaizer Chiefs have officially set the stage for their next generation of talent, confirming that five members of their championship-winning DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) squad have been sent out on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.

The strategic “mass exodus” from the reserve side is designed to give the club’s rising stars a taste of senior professional football in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Coach Vela Khumalo, fresh off a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, emphasised that these moves are essential for players who have already conquered the reserve league.

“These boys have already won the league; they need to be tested and gain vital playing time,” Khumalo remarked. “This reflects positively on our development program, as many of our former players are making impactful contributions at various big clubs.”

The moves see a high concentration of talent heading to key First Division outfits:

Ofentse Kgosana & Manqoba Ozoemena: Heading to Casric Stars to bolster their midfield.

Sfiso Timba: Joining Gomora United to shore up their defensive line.

Vicky Mkhawana: Moving to Kruger United FC to gain experience in the final third.

Nkosana Mbuthu: Joining Leicesterford City for the remainder of the season.

In a unique move, Bobo Sima will also be gaining international experience, crossing the border to join Botswana giants Mochudi Centre Chiefs.

The departure of these senior DDC figures isn’t just about their personal growth; it’s a calculated move to refresh the academy ranks. By moving these players out, Khumalo is opening doors for the “2008 birth year group” to step into the spotlight as part of a fresh three-year development cycle. This shift comes as the club also celebrates the permanent promotion of striker Naledi Hlongwane and midfielder Thulani Mabaso to the senior first team.

In a separate move involving the senior ranks, first-team goalkeeper Bontle Molefe has also secured a loan move. The 23-year-old shot-stopper has joined Leicesterford City, where he will look to gain much-needed match minutes and maintain his sharp form away from the intense competition for the No. 1 jersey at Naturena.
