Zambia’s teenage sensation Mercy Chipasula is confident the women’s national team will be ready for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in July, once they have corrected a few mistakes from the recently concluded Three-Nation Series.

The Copper Queens reached the final of the competition in South Africa on Tuesday, but lost 2-0 against Banyana Banyana at Lucas Moripe Stadium. According to Chipasula, they must go back to the drawing board to fix a few weaknesses in their final WAFCON preparations.

“We are a good team, we just need to work together to make sure we achieve our goal at the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. "We have only a few mistakes to work on, which the coach noted during the Three-Nation Series." Those are the things we will be working to rectify in our final preparations for WAFCON," Chipasula told SABC Sports.

“The tournament was good, and we also played well. Like I said, there are only a few mistakes we have picked up from the tournament. It also allowed the coach to assess the team.

“I believe in myself. I think I have the right mindset to play well at WAFCON and leave a mark just as I did during the Cosafa Championship last year,” she concluded.

Zambia secured a 1-1 draw in their Three-Nation series opening fixture, and wrapped up the tournament with a 2-0 defeat against Banyana Banyana in the final.
