South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL)’s Chippa United coach Luc Eymael has vented his frustrations over the manner in which the Chillies are conceding goals, after yet another disappointing outing in the Betway Premiership on Sunday.
United faced Gallants at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium where the 10th-placed hosts sought to build on their sound performance. On the other hand, the Port Elizabeth-based outfit wanted to get off the foot of the PSL table. In the end, the hosts made the most of home ground advantage.
Reflecting on the manner his team conceded in critical moments of the Betway Premiership game, Eymael was left frustrated and disappointed by his team.
“I feel very sad; very disappointing,” he told SuperSport Television in a post-match interview. “Again, we lost the points in the last moments of additional time like was the case in the game against Polokwane City.”
The Belgian bemoaned his team’s failure to defend set-pieces and a lapse in concentration in critical moments of games.
It was the manner in which Chippa let in the second goal that riled the veteran mentor, who lamented sloppy defending.
“We had three men marking one guy, and [that] one man took the ball and scored with a head. We are killing ourselves. Like I said, we are giving the button to the opponent to beat us. It cannot happen like. No, no, no. We cannot do like that. We worked hard, we fought back and scored a wonderful goal and [yet], we conceded again. It cannot happen like that. No, no. I don’t know what to do. It is unbelievable. No, no. It cannot happen again,” Eymael explained.
“We are repeating the mistake like was the case against Polokwane City. The first goal [we were] unlucky because it was a deflection but the second one no, no. Lack of concentration of concentration on a set-piece. You know I didn’t concede one goal from a set-piece last season with [FC Saint Eloi] Lupopo. No direct set-piece. No indirect set-piece. No corner. We didn’t concede one goal from a set-piece. But we are working on it.”
During the match, Sekela Sithole put the hosts ahead with a 60th minute goal which Cameroonian Bienvenu Eva Nga cancelled out with two minutes to full-time. However, to Eymael’s frustrations, Gallants snatched a later winner through Eroine Agnikoi three minutes into added time.
