Betway Premiership side Chippa United has announced a significant squad overhaul, with 18 players confirmed to be leaving the club.
This major shake-up comes on the heels of recent changes to the technical team, including the appointment of former Wydad Casablanca assistant coach Sinethemba Badela at the helm.
Chippa are clearly signalling a new era. Sinesipho Mali, Bafana Bafana's head performance analyst and recently with Sekhukhune United, has been brought in as the club’s sporting director. The club is also expected to announce its full technical team soon, with Mark Mayambela linked as an assistant coach.
In a statement issued by sporting Director Sinesipho Mali on Tuesday, it was confirmed that three players will be returning to their respective parent clubs: Aphelele Teto (Livingston FC)
Siphelo Baloni (Orlando Pirates), and Sonwabo Khumalo (Pele Pele FC).
"We extend our sincere gratitude to each of them for their service and commitment during their time at the club," Mali stated. "Their contributions, both on and off the field, are appreciated and respected."
The Chilli Boys also confirmed the departure of 15 additional players whose contracts conclude at the end of the 2024/25 season. This list includes notable names such as Justice Chabalala, Bienvenu Eva Nga, Craig Martin, and veteran midfielder Andile Jali.
Goalkeeper Darren Johnson has already completed a move to AmaZulu FC, where he will replace the outgoing Veli Mothwa.
The full list of players who will not be part of the Chippa United squad for the upcoming season includes: Darren Johnson, Lukhanyo July, Justice Chabalala, Samkelo Jali, Andile Jali, Baraka Majogoro, Athenkosi Dlala, Roland Sanou, Craig Martin, Ronald Maarman, Thobani Jacobs, Sifiso Mazibuko, Aviwe Mgokozo, Enock Sakala and Bienvenu Eva Nga.
