The Malawi senior national women’s football team coach, Lovemore Fazili, has declared his side ready for Thursday’s friendly against Morocco.
The Scorchers face the Atlas Lionesses at Kenitra Stadium in Casablanca while gearing up for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals.
Fazili, who has traveled with a 24-player squad, including Ascent Academy’s Victoria Mkwala and Fatima Lali, highlighted the importance of the match to the Scorchers.
“Our main aim here is to strengthen the team as we prepare for Angola in October [WAFCON qualifier], as we know that Morocco are a stronger side just like South Africa and Zambia whom we met in our previous friendlies so winning will just be a bonus for us but we wish to draw some positives from the experience and build on them,” he said after the final training session at the Sporting Center of FAR on Wednesday.
“As a team, we know that we are also a good side and that is why we can attract big teams like Morocco so we will do all we can to give them a good game.”
The game will be played under floodlights, with kickoff scheduled for 20:30hrs local time.
Meanwhile, the Scorchers have received a boost with the arrival in camp of Kazakhstan-based striker Vanessa Chikupira and defender Bernadettar Mkandawire.
The Scorchers have been busy this year, having played four strength-testing matches already against Zambia and South Africa twice each, winning once and losing thrice.
