Ethiopian Premier League club Mekele 70 Enderta parted ways with their head coach Daniel Tsehaye after a goalless draw against Adama Ketema in Round 28. The one-time Ethiopian champions are on the verge of naming Tsegaye Kidanemariam as Tsehaye’s replacement.
A series of unimpressive results has seen the northern Ethiopian outfit hovering around the drop zone. They are winless in their last three league outings and currently sit 14th with 29 points. The club officially stated that the board decided to part ways with Tsehaye, citing a poor run of form.
Tsehaye took over Mekele at the start of the league season after leaving his assistant coaching role at Mechal. The former Guna Trading right-back led Mekele to seven victories, eight draws, and eleven defeats in the league.
The club has already lined up Kidanemariam as Tsehaye’s replacement. Pan-Africa Football spotted the incoming head coach in Hawassa, where he appears to be finalizing his appointment at Mekele.
Kidanemariam started his coaching career at the now-defunct Trans Ethiopia FC, but he is well known for leading Harar Beer and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. He recently led Wolwalo Adigrat University but failed to steer the club out of the relegation zone.
Kidanemariam’s first task is to maintain Mekele 70 Enderta's league status for next season.
