Comoros senior national football team coach, Hamada Jambay, has vowed that his team will bounce back strongly in the 2026 COSAFA Cup by beefing up his squad with France-based stars.
The Frenchman said he had learned lessons from this year’s tournament, including the importance of having quality players.
“We warn our future opponents that next year, Comoros will be back strongly. Next year, we will bring France-based players into our squad,” Jambay told COSAFA media.
The islanders were among the semifinal surprise packages of the Southern African tournament.
However, Comoros met their match, losing 3-1 to South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Friday in the semifinal to bow out of the competition with their heads high.
Reflecting on the match, the coach said, “South Africa played well. They pressed high. We thought they would be tired since they had fewer days to rest than us before this game. However, sometimes you prepare well, and sometimes you are unable to control the game. Such things happen.”
Jambay’s men started the tournament with a bang after upsetting former champions Zambia 1-0, a result that set the islanders on the path to the semifinal.
