Valencia manager Carlos Corberan praised the attitude of Nigeria international Umar Sadiq after he made his debut in a 2-0 Copa del Rey win against Eldense at the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Pepico Amat, Elda on Tuesday.

The Super Eagle came on in the 58th minute replacing Hugo Duro and he had two chances to find the back of the net.

“From day one he (Sadiq) has come with the necessary attitude and mentality to play for Valencia CF,” Corberan told reporters after the game. ”Whoever comes must come with that commitment and that intention to help. Today was a first step where he has shown that attitude necessary for this moment.”

Sadiq, who is on loan from Real Sociedad, said on his first game: “I needed a game like this, I want to give it continuity, because unfortunately I hadn’t scored for a year and I want to change that, because I want to be an important player at Valencia.”

He added: “We’ve had little time with him, but we’re a young group that wants to learn and improve and we want to improve now. The fans can be excited about the Cup.

“The situation in the League is what it is, but if we play like we did on Friday and like we did in the Cup, I don’t think there will be many problems.”
