COSAFA boss Sue Destombes set to leave her post

The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) executive director Sue Destombes has confirmed that she is leaving her post.

The South African football administrator, who has served the association for over 26 years, said she was proud of her achievements.

“It has been a great honour to serve as Executive Director of COSAFA and I am proud of our many achievements over the years, which has positioned COSAFA as a leader on the African continent on and off the pitch,” Destombes told COSAFA media.

“I look forward to continuing to serve Southern African football in a consultancy capacity. I firmly believe there is more potential to be unlocked in the region across both genders and all age groups.”

Destombes is credited with playing a pivotal role in turning COSAFA into CAF’s most vibrant football zones with competitions for all age groups for males and females held every calendar year.

COSAFA, under her leadership, hosted a record 10 COSAFA tournaments last year, including five dedicated to women’s football. A statement from the COSAFA secretariat says the association will begin the hunt for a new director soon in line with its statutes and CAF’s procedures.

Executive Directors of CAF’s six Zonal Unions are tasked with the overall management and administration of their respective offices, ensuring operations are effective and aligned with CAF regulations, the statement adds.
