COSAFA Cup: Bafana Bafana march to the final after convincing win over Comoros

The final of the 2025 COSAFA Cup will be a clash between tournament favourites after hosts South Africa defeated Comoros in Friday’s second semifinal.

Bafana Bafana beat the island nation by a 3-1 score at the Free State Stadium and will now face reigning champions Angola in Sunday’s final.

Kamogelo Sebelebele’s second-half strike put Bafana Bafana out of reach. The TS Galaxy forward pounced on an opportunity created by a Comoros turnover to strike his first-time effort past goalkeeper Naime Said Mchindra in the 60th minute.

A strong start secured South Africa’s passage to the final. An own goal from Comoros inside ten minutes confirmed a confident start from a motivated host side, who then doubled their lead six minutes later with a brilliant end-to-end team movement that resulted in Boitumelo Radiopane’s clinical finish.

Comoros did respond before halftime when Ibrahim Madi collected a cross before firing through a crowd of Bafana defenders past South Africa goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa. However, a renewed effort led to the crucial goal from Sebelebele that put away any doubts of a Comorian comeback.

South Africa will face a high-powered Angola side on Sunday in the final at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein (13:00 GMT).

Comoros’ elimination completes a good outing from COSAFA’s Francophone island nations at the competition. Madagascar also advanced to the semifinals before falling to Angola earlier on Friday, while Mauritius also proved to be tough competition in the group stage. Comoros and Madagascar will clash for third place on Sunday (10:00 GMT).
