Madagascar were not involved in Wednesday’s action from the 2025 COSAFA Cup in South Africa but the Barea qualified for the semifinals as Group C winners after Tanzania defeated Eswatini by a 2-1 score.
The Taifa Stars, already eliminated after falling to defeat against Madagascar on Saturday, were playing for pride but overcame a deficit to earn their first points and finish as runners-up in the group. Andy Junior Magagula’s second goal of the competition put Eswatini ahead in the 29th minute but Tanzania responded before halftime through Iddy Seleman Nado to leave the teams all square at the break.
Needing a win to overtake Madagascar for top spot, Eswatini’s hopes were extinguished in the 69th minute when Shekhani Khamis’ tame effort slipped through the arms of Eswatini goalkeeper Bongiswa Dlamini (video above).
Group winners Madagascar advance to the semifinals where they will play Angola in the opening match on June 13 before hosts South Africa face Comoros.
