Mauritius coach Guillaume Moullec expressed his frustration after a goalless draw against Zimbabwe at the 2025 COSAFA Cup in South Africa on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

The Frenchman said his players dropped points partly because they were not more direct in their play and overlooked the Toyota Stadium pitch condition, which affected play.

“I am very frustrated with the result. We now need to do better in the next match. We need a win in our next match, we need to focus on it and achieve this result,” Moullec said through an interpreter.

“We needed to go straight to the goal, but our players did not take into account the pitch, which was not good. Maybe in the next match, we need to consider this.”

The islanders came close to pulling a shocker after Stephen Robillard converted from close range. However, Malawian referee Godfrey Nkhakananga ruled out the goal after consulting VAR, citing a handball.

The next assignment for Mauritius is against Mozambique on June 7, followed by South Africa three days later to determine the semifinalist from the group. In an earlier match, Mozambique stunned Bafana Bafana 1-0 on Wednesday to go top.
