Malawi senior national football team assistant coach, Peter Mponda, has told the Flames to up their game and find scoring boots when they face Angola on Tuesday.

The former Black Leopards FC defender told the players that Malawians are hungry for a win after the national team started the COSAFA Cup with a 1-0 loss to Lesotho, followed by a goalless draw with Namibia over the weekend in Group B in South Africa.

Such results have left the Flames’ hope of securing a semifinal place in the hands of other teams, especially group leaders Angola, who they meet at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

“Malawians are hungry; they want results. We strongly believe that we are going to give them the required results,” Mponda told the Football Association of Malawi media.

The Flames need to score at least four goals against Angola to have a chance of qualifying for the semifinals.

The Palancas Negras lead the table with four points from two games, Lesotho has three points in second place, followed by Namibia with two points and Malawi with one.

Only the group winner will qualify for the semifinals of the 14-team competition. In another match on Tuesday, Namibia will face Lesotho.
