COSAFA Cup: "Zambia did not know Comoros players" - Ahamada

Comoros coach Jambay Ahamada has explained why they had an edge over Zambia in Friday’s COSAFA Cup Group D match, which the Islanders won 1-0.

The Frenchman attributed the victory to doing enough homework on the Chipolopolo’s style of play through video analysis.

“We worked hard and watched videos from the 2023 and 2024 tournaments. We know that our opponents did the same. However, we changed our squad — we now have many new players and Zambia did not have data for them,” Ahamada told COSAFA media.

Ibrahim Madi's first-half strike at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa, sent the islanders to the summit of the pool.

The Islanders’ player Idris Mohamed was also named player of the match. Comoros have since switched focus to preparations for the next game against Botswana on June 9, with the Zebras’ next assignment being against Zambia two days later.

The action continues on Saturday with three matches lined up at the same stadium. Mozambique face Mauritius, hoping to build on their opening 1-0 Group A win over South Africa. Mauritius are coming off an impressive goalless draw against Zimbabwe.

A second match of the day sees South Africa facing Zimbabwe while they are desperate to get back to winning ways after the loss to the Mambas.

A meeting between Tanzania and Madagascar will wrap up the day at 6:00 p.m. CAT (4:00 p.m. GMT).
