The Malawi under-17 girls’ football team have secured an early place in the COSAFA U-17 Championship semi-finals after back-to-back wins, including a dominant 6-0 victory over Comoros on Sunday.
Sunday’s emphatic win was all thanks to Faluna Umali’s hat-trick, Alinafe Nyirenda’s brace, and Cecilia Mzima’s goal at Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia.
The Malawians recorded their second victory in Group A, following a 3-0 win over hosts Namibia on Friday. Malawi will now face the best runner-up across the three pools in the semi-finals.
Elsewhere in the group stage, Lesotho beat Botswana 1-0 in Group C's opener, courtesy of Thato Molete's 18th-minute strike.
The action continues on Monday when Mauritius face Mozambique in Group B's opener, while Botswana meet Zimbabwe in Group C.
