Coupe de la Confédération – Quart de finale aller : La Renaissance de Berkane frappe fort à Abidjan

Mission accomplished for the Renaissance de Berkane. In a perilous away game against ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan, the Moroccan club secured a valuable 0-1 victory this Wednesday evening at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium in the first leg of the Confederation Cup quarter-finals. A golden victory for Moein Chaâbani’s men, before their return to their Oriental cauldron.

In a tight first half, the two teams engaged in a tactical battle, but were unable to break the opposition’s barriers. The Ivorians, spurred on by their fans, tried to impose their pace, but the Berkanis’ well-positioned defense, led by a calm defensive axis, contained the local attacks.

After the break, Renaissance raised their game. Ayoub Khairi and Youssef Mehri scored twice, forcing the Ivorian goalkeeper to stretch to keep the score level. But the Moroccan pressure was not to be in vain.

In the 75th minute, taking advantage of a misunderstanding in the ASEC defense, Imad Riahhi appeared and slipped the ball into the back of the net, giving Berkane a crucial goal in a double confrontation where every detail counts.

The date is now set: Tuesday, April 9, at the Berkane municipal stadium, kick-off at 7 p.m. (GMT).
