Coupe du monde des clubs 2025 : selon l’IA et les données d’Opta, le Wydad part de très loin

According to estimates from artificial intelligence systems, including predictions from the ChatGPT platform and analyses from the sports data company Opta, Wydad Athletic Club de Casablanca is not among the teams likely to go far in the new edition of the 2025 Club World Cup.

Projections give the Moroccan club a mere 10% chance of making it out of the group stage, and less than a 1% chance of lifting the trophy – a percentage that puts them in the same category as the tournament’s weakest teams, such as Auckland City (New Zealand) or Botafogo (Brazil), this year’s surprise guest.

Strong group and unbalanced competition

Wydad has been handed a particularly tough Group G, where it will face English champions Manchester City, Italian giants Juventus, and Al-Ain, an Emirati team well-known in the region.

A group described as “unbalanced,” given the significant gap between the clubs’ technical, financial, and structural resources. Manchester City is also ranked among the absolute favorites for the tournament by Opta, while Wydad should, according to these forecasts, fight with Al-Aïn for third place, with a slight theoretical advantage for the Emirati club, finalist of the 2018 edition.

The reasons for numerical pessimism

The unattractive probabilities attributed to Wydad are based on a series of objective parameters:

The unattractive probabilities attributed to Wydad are based on a series of objective parameters:

A lack of experience against the big European teams.

Limited resources, both human and financial.

A lack of technical stability in recent months.

And above all, the historically poor performance of African clubs in this competition, where none has yet won the title, despite the finals reached by TP Mazembe (2010) and Raja Casablanca (2013).

A difficult context… but surprises remain possible

Despite these less than optimistic figures, football remains a sport open to the unexpected. Coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem is banking on his players’ fighting spirit, their collective discipline, and the strong support of the Moroccan diaspora in the United States to inspire a dynamic capable of defying predictions.

Under these conditions, simply qualifying for the last 16 would be seen as an achievement, given the complexity of the group and the apparent hierarchy.

Wydad enters the 2025 Club World Cup as the underdog. Opta and ChatGPT algorithms rank them among the weakest teams on the field. Yet, the final word always belongs to the pitch, and football, true to its tradition, has never ceased to surprise.
