The Uganda women’s national team officially began residential training on Monday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo as they gear up for their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Ethiopia.
After checking into camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisaasi on Sunday, the team kicked off preparations with a light activation session in the morning before hitting the training ground at Nakivubo later in the day.
All locally based players reported for duty while the foreign-based contingent is expected to start arriving this week.
Head coach Sheryl Botes was pleased with the opening session and emphasized the value of blending experienced players with emerging talents.
“The first session went well. We have a mix of senior players and young ones, and I see great potential in the team. The young players have responded well, and I want them to embrace this experience of being with the Crested Cranes.”
Uganda will host the first leg on Friday, 21st February, before traveling for the return fixture in Ethiopia on Wednesday, 26th February.
The Crested Cranes are determined to secure a return to WAFCON, having last featured in the 2022 edition in Morocco.
