CWCL COSAFA Qualifiers: Zesco Ndola Girls coach speaks out

Zesco Ndola Girls coach, William Zulu, has reacted to their much-anticipated debut in the CAF Women’s Champions League: COSAFA Qualifiers.

He said this as they gear up to make their debut against Namibia’s Beauties FC on Friday in a Group A game. The pool also comprises Malawi’s Ntopwa Ladies and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, who meet later in the day.

Zulu said their qualification for the regional competition signals the growth of Zambia women’s football.

“Competing in such games is a plus,” he told COSAFA media. “The league in our country is so becoming competitive. Previously Green Buffaloes dominated the league, but the league has become tough.”

The coach added that their qualification to the competition is a testimony of the competitiveness of the Zambia women’s football league.

“You have to fight hard to win the league. We have maintained the same team for three seasons and our goal was to create competition for the opposition and it has helped us win the league,” the coach added.

Ndola Girls completed their final training session at the UJ stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday ahead of their debut at the regional tournament.

The Ndola-based side becomes only the second Zambian club to feature in the COSAFA qualifiers, after Green Buffaloes, who represented the nation in the past four editions and famously lifted the title in 2022 by defeating Sundowns on penalties.
