Nigeria defender Igoh Ogbu has signed a one-year contract extension with Czech champions Slavia Prague, securing his stay at the club until December 2027.

The new deal was confirmed by the Czech champions on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

The 25-year-old has established himself as a key player for the Czech league champions since his arrival from Norwegian outfit Lillestrøm in January 2023.

Ogbu's extension reflects Slavia Prague's confidence in the Nigerian defender. He has become a key figure in Slavia’s defense, making 92 appearances and scoring five goals for the club.

He has also contributed significantly in European competitions, netting two goals in the Europa League.

Ogbu's consistent performances have earned him respect from teammates and fans, along with a growing leadership role — notably wearing the captain's armband for the first time during a match against Benátky nad Jizerou.

The contract extension puts to rest recent speculation about his future, with French Ligue 1 clubs such as Lyon, Lille, and Lens reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

His impressive form also earned him a call-up to the Super Eagles earlier this year. Ogbu was part of the Flying Eagles squad at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
