Daka admits Leicester City future uncertain

Zambian striker Patson Daka has fuelled speculation regarding his future with Leicester City by saying he does not know what will happen ‘because tomorrow is not promised.’

In a post-match interview after a EFL Sky Bet Championship match against Preston North End FC on Friday, the Chipolopolo star suggested that his future with the Foxes was not guaranteed.

The former Red Bull Salzburg FC forward was reacting to the two goals he scored in the two-all draw with Preston North End FC at the King Power Stadium.

“It was a very tough game against a tough opponent,” said Daka. “We would have loved three points today. We had a great start, unfortunately, we didn’t get the maximum points, but it was a very good performance from the group.

We showed good character and mentality. After going down, we didn’t panic. We just kept doing what the gaffer asked to us to do. We just had to make sure we didn’t drop all the three points today.”

The winner of the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations title featured for Leicester City a few hours after returning from a long trip from Argentina where he honoured a friendly match for the Copper Bullets against the FIFA World Cup reigning champions.

Daka seizing every scoring opportunity

Asked how tough it was to play for his club after such a hectic schedule, Daka said he needs to seize every scoring opportunity because he was unsure of what will happen next in his career with Leicester City.

“It is always good to be on the scoresheet, and it has been a crazy few hours for me getting back, but this is the job that we choose,” he said. “I just ensure that I am ready every time and try to give my best in every opportunity that I get because tomorrow is not promised.

You don’t know what will happen the next day, so I just by all means, try to utilise every opportunity that I have. I don’t want to live to regret anything at the end of the day.”

How Zambian pulled Leicester from jaws of defeat

The Chipolopolo star put the hosts ahead barely after four minutes. Preston responded with first-half strikes from forward Andrew Moran and midfielder Benjamin Whiteman, only for the Zambian to level matters with nine minutes to full-time.

This was not only about the Zambian trying so hard to save the Foxes from the EFL Sky Bet Championship relegation danger. It was also a last-ditch attempt to secure his stay at the club.

Daka is the subject of transfer speculation for the ailing Foxes who are third from the basement of the log table.

A return of five goals in 14 EFL Sky Bet Championship matches this campaign is hardly a convincing deliverable for someone who was supposed to be Jamie Vardy’s heir to the throne of goals.
